Rosenvinge

With its elegant, almost-500-year-old pattern, Rosenvinge remains a historic wallpaper favourite, as beloved now as it was back then.

Rosenvinge is a discreet Renaissance wallpaper that we have produced in three soft colourways. The original dates back to the 1500s, and is based on the Nordic region’s oldest paper wallpaper!
It’s easy to see how this timeless pattern, reminiscent of a woven tapestry, would fit today’s homes just as well as the beautiful renaissance buildings of yesteryear. Modern, historic and traditional, all at once!

The history behind the wallpaper

It is the 1950s, and renovations to the illustrious Rosenvingeska Huset in Malmö are in full swing. On the ceiling in one of the gable rooms, renovators find fragments of the Rosenvinge pattern. What they don’t yet know is that they have just discovered a wallpaper treasure that dates back to at least 1564. This beautiful wallpaper still hangs in Rosenvingeska Huset to this day, from which the wallpaper gets its name.

“To get the pattern and colours just right, I visited Rosenvingeska Huset in Malmö. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the room, and it was an incredible feeling to step inside a space with a wallpaper from the Renaissance – I got goosebumps,” says Sissa.

“This wallpaper has the perfect combination of the Renaissance style’s sober architectural imagery, stylised flowers and verdant greenery. Not only is it beautiful on the wall, it is incredibly well-balanced, too.”
