Our printing techniques
A traditional printing technique that our company has been using since it was set up in 1905.
All our production processes are conducted under one roof in Viared, close to the town of Borås in Sweden, where our wallpaper is printed using a range of techniques. These techniques and their differences are described below.
From the oldest surface printing press to the state-of-the art in digital printing. It is all about preserving our rich artisan tradition while keeping up to speed on the latest technologies that open up exciting and innovative design possibilities.
Surface printing
A traditional printing technique that our company has been using since it was set up in 1905. An old surface printing press stands in the heart of the wallpaper factory and prints wet-on-wet in seven to eight colours. There’s also a modern surface printing press there that prints in six to seven colours. With both these presses, the technique produces a textured surface and expressive design character that gives the wallpaper a hand-painted look.

Gravure printing
This technique allows wallpaper to be produced faster and in larger quantities. The factory houses two gravure printing presses today. This technique gives the wallpaper its various tones and richness of detail. Wallpaper printed using this technique can feature five to six colours. This equipment is used to print our textured wallpapers, such as our Linen wallpaper with its textile effect.

Screen printing
Originally used for textile printing, this technique involves the use of stencils to transfer the design. The process takes longer than most other printing techniques as the paint is pressed from the inside out and the printing surface is wider. Screen-printed wallpaper can have up to three colours and the technique is often used together with intaglio printing. We use this technique to print Kontur, Fiberduk, Recover and other technical products. These can be purchased from our resellers.

Digital printing
Digital printing is the latest technique that we use for printing our wallpapers. The facility’s three digital presses, like massive printers, can produce wallpaper with more colours and larger designs than wallpaper printed using collagraph or intaglio printing. These wallpapers are printed on demand, which is excellent from a sustainability standpoint.
