"Under the Elder Tree" and its pattern draw inspiration from medieval tapestries, Arts & Crafts patterns, and book illustrations from the early 20th century.
“The sketch for this pattern has been on my desk for several years. I am particularly fond of dense two-tone wallpaper patterns, as they are incredibly versatile and suitable for most rooms,” says Noomi Spange, Designer at Boråstapeter.
The pattern is like a story unfolding, similar to how ancient woven wallpapers often illustrated a religious or mythological story. It's a wallpaper you can look at for a long time but a pattern that does not overpower the room.
“In the original sketch, there was also a moose, squirrels, and a badger, but as the work progressed, the squirrels and the badger disappeared, and the moose was replaced by a stag. All the animals included in the pattern are creatures I grew up close to.”
